Raising Confident, Happy, and Well-Adjusted Puppies

At Pitter Patter Puppies, we believe that raising an amazing puppy starts long before they go home. The first eight weeks of a puppy's life are incredibly important, and we're committed to giving each puppy the best possible start.

Our puppies are born and raised right inside our home, surrounded by family, children, and the everyday sights and sounds of a busy household.

We incorporate early development and socialization practices inspired by Avidog and Puppy Culture, including Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS), Early Scent Introduction (ESI), and age-appropriate enrichment activities.

Our goal is to raise puppies who are confident, curious, affectionate, and ready to become wonderful family companions.

Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS)

Days 3–16

During the first few weeks of life, we introduce our puppies to a series of gentle, carefully controlled exercises known as Early Neurological Stimulation.

These brief exercises expose puppies to mild, age-appropriate stimulation during an important stage of neurological development.

ENS is intended to support healthy development and early adaptability. Some research suggests potential benefits for stress responses, although specific long-term health and behavioral outcomes are not guaranteed.

Each exercise is performed gently, with our puppies' comfort and safety always coming first.

Early Scent Introduction (ESI)

Days 3–16

A puppy's sense of smell begins developing before their eyes and ears open!

Through Early Scent Introduction, we expose our puppies to a variety of safe, distinct scents during their first weeks of life.

This gentle activity encourages puppies to explore the world through their noses and introduces them to new sensory experiences.

Scent work can become a wonderful enrichment activity as dogs grow, whether they're family companions or eventually participate in activities like tracking, nose work, or other scent-based training.

Early Socialization & Enrichment

Weeks 3–8

As our puppies' eyes and ears open and they become more aware of their surroundings, the fun really begins!

This is an important period for learning, exploration, and positive experiences.

We gradually introduce our puppies to:

• Everyday household sounds: Vacuums, televisions, conversations, kitchen noises, and the activity of family life.

• New sights and objects: Age-appropriate toys, unfamiliar objects, and different visual experiences.

• Different surfaces and textures: Opportunities to explore and become comfortable with new environments.

• Gentle handling: Positive experiences with being touched, held, and handled to help prepare them for grooming and veterinary care.

• People and children: Supervised, positive interactions with family members and visitors.

• Confidence-building activities: Simple challenges and enrichment opportunities that encourage curiosity, problem-solving, and independence.

Every puppy develops at their own pace, so we tailor experiences to their individual personalities and comfort levels.

Raised in Our Home, Loved Like Family

One of the things that makes Pitter Patter Puppies special is that our puppies grow up right alongside our family.

They aren't raised in a kennel, separated from everyday life. They're surrounded by the sounds of children playing, family conversations, and the daily routines of a loving home.

Our children help provide supervised affection, gentle handling, and positive interactions, giving our puppies valuable early experiences with family life.

We also spend time getting to know each puppy's unique temperament, which helps us guide families toward a puppy who may be a wonderful fit for their home and lifestyle.

By the time our puppies are ready to join their forever families at eight weeks old, they've experienced weeks of intentional care, gentle handling, enrichment, and positive socialization.

While every puppy will continue learning and developing after going home, we believe these early experiences help lay an important foundation for their future.
